Using Skype on a Chromebook

Skype and Chrome don't always work as expected. In some instances users on Chromebooks will get an error message when initially trying to join a Skype meeting. The problem stems from the Skype portal attempting to install the Skype app without support for Chrome. The workaround is fairly simple. Just close the warning and run the app in a browser window. You will need a Microsoft account that uses a login separate from your work email. 


When you first click the link to enter the meeting you'll get the message "Chrome OS can't open the page" 

You can just close the message and you should see a login prompt: Sign In or Create. Click to sign in using a non-work microsoft account since our domain will not support Skype:


From here, you'll be directed to web.skype.com. That's the app in the browser. You can turn on camera and mic and then hit Start Call to enter the meeting:
